College Counseling

The college counseling program at ECS spans over four years, educating students (and their parents) extensively about preparing for college, completing college applications, and selecting a college.  The degree of advising increases and becomes more specialized as students advance from grade nine to twelve. The ECS Guidance staff communicates with students and families through emails, school publications, and, most importantly, through individual meetings.

The ECS Guidance staff also prepares and sends specific school reports, college recommendations, transcripts, and other documents in support of each student’s college admission and scholarship applications, helping students finalize their college choices each spring.

Since the first graduating class in 1974, ECS students have been admitted to over 150 different colleges and universities in over 30 states and 3 countries.

Annual college counseling programming for students and/or parents includes:

Incoming 7th Grade Meeting
Incoming Freshmen Meeting
Junior Parent Meeting
Winter College Scholarships/Financial Aid Workshop
Christian College Fair Day
Summers at ECS “Camp College”
College Counseling Meeting for seniors
College Entrance Test Preparation
Individual Appointments

College counseling at Evangelical Christian School is designed to be personal and individualized. At its best, the process goes beyond helping ECS students find a college that is a good match for them.  From beginning to end, students are at the center of this process. They are expected to take responsibility for registering for appropriate tests, completing applications, and meeting deadlines. The ECS Counselors are here to assist, encourage, challenge, and support students as they set goals and make decisions.

There is no doubt that the process can be stressful at times and can have emotional highs and lows. We find that it works best when everyone - students, parents and counselors – works together in the process.

These pages are designed to offer information about the process. Please refer to them throughout the year, as we will update it with the latest information.
