Junior High Soccer Wins Championship

Evangelical Christian School's Jr.High girls' soccer team won Suncoast
Jr.High Soccer Season Trophy with a record of 15-0, and they were also the
Suncoast Jr.High League Champions defeating St.Andrew 7-0 in the final.
Their seaon record was 17-0. Great job ladies... GO Sentinels. They were
coached by Ms.Burch, Coach Magner, and Coach Woods.

The ECS Sentinel Symphonia took 1st Place in Elementary Band/Orchestra Class AA
competition at the JR. FACCS State Competition on the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic
University in West Palm Beach on May 12.

FACCS Fine Arts Competition Winners

Twenty-seven ECS students travelled to Jacksonville to compete with 1,800 students from
around the state in the FACCS High School Fine Arts competitions, March 11 and 12.
As a result, our congratulations go out to Matthew Hovis for taking 1st place in Solo Organ
competition, Tim Hsiao for taking 1st place in Computer Knowledge, Robbie Linklater for
winning 2nd place in Dramatic Interpretation and Elena Novak for winning 3rd place in
the Female Vocal Solo competition. Congratulations also go to Jared Mosley for earning
a Superior rating in Male Vocal Solo, Lauren Daley for earning an Excellent rating in
Dramatic Interpretation and to the Masterpiece Chorale for earning a Superior rating in
the Large Vocal Ensemble category.

Congratulations to the A-Team for placing second in the A-team Challenge!
The A-Team Challenge is a televised academic competition which recognizes academic excellence and fosters the spirit of competition among our high school students. ECS participates in the A-Team Challenge, a project of the Foundation for Lee County Schools, Inc. and NBC-2. This televised academic competition recognizes excellence among our high school students. Thirty-three area high schools participated this year. ECS is very pleased to have made it to the remaining four schools to compete. The four players are Jordan Church, Tim Hsiao, Andrew Hsiao and Nick Mull.

Dear ECS Family:

I would like to thank everyone who had a part in making the auction
"Candyland" such a great success! It was a great evening thanks to your
support. We are looking forward to utilizing this money to assist in the
academic program and classroom needs.
I also want to thank our athletic booster club board and supporters for
helping make the new track possible. As you can see, the old track has
already been torn up and work has begun on the foundation for the new
track. When the track is finished, we will be able to hold our track
meets here on campus as well as the every day needs like PE.

ECS Competitive Cheerleaders Donate Win to Haiti

Evangelical Christian School's Varsity Competitive Squad traveled to West
Palm Beach on Saturday, January 30, to compete in The American Cheer
Championships held at the Cruzan Amphitheater. They took first place in
the Large Varsity division, bringing home a plaque and a cash prize of
$500. Coaches Donna Luke and Shawn Dean allowed the squad to vote on how
they would like to spend their money. The squad voted 20-0 to donate it to
Haiti. Congratulations girls on your big win and even more so on your BIG
hearts! The team will be traveling to Kissimmee on Friday, February 5, to
compete in the school's first ever FHSAA State Competition.

$5.000 raised to spread Christmas Cheer for needy of SW Florida

Mr. Cooper’s classes raise money to buy Christmas presents for the less
fortunate in Lee County.

Seventh and Eight grade students from Evangelical Christian School raised
around $5,000 to provide Christmas presents for 50 less fortunate people
in Lee County this Christmas. For the sixth year in a row, ECS’s 7th & 8th
graders participated in the actual shopping experience, spending $100 on
each recipient. Afterwords, the students wrapped the gifts and enjoyed a
Christmas picnic at Lakes Park. It was an awesome experience for the
students knowing that they were helping to bring "Christmas Cheer" to
others this Christmas!

Nominate your teacher for the 2010 Golden Halo Award

The Fourth Annual Golden Halo Award celebration will be held on March 13th, 2010, at Grace Community Center in Cape Coral, FL. The Christian Chamber of Southwest Florida is proud to be hosting this unique celebration with dinner and our special keynote speaker, Sierra Minott, Miss Florida 2008.

Attached is the Teacher nomination form. Teachers must be nominated by a student, with the help of parents if necessary. All applications must be submitted no later than January 7, 2010. They may be dropped off at ECS. Any questions may be directed to the Chamber office. The Christian Chamber?s goal is to recognize and honor Christian classroom teachers. These forms are also available on the Chamber website: www.Hischamber.org.

The Golden Halo recipient will be announced at the dinner on Saturday, March 13th, 2010.

Junior U.S. History students from Evangelical Christian School visited the Koreshan Unity Settlement

Junior U.S. History students from Evangelical Christian School visited the
Koreshan Unity Settlement in Estero on Tuesday December 1. Mrs. Scoone
provides the students with an opportunity to experience "living history"
first hand by visiting the Koreshan historical settlement after studying
the Utopian Societies of the 1800s. The Koreshan Unity Settlement was
founded in 1894 by Cyrus R. Teed. The community was founded on the ideas
of communal living and property, religious and scientific theories, and
the communistic goal of everyone working for the good of all, or a
classless utopia--a perfect society.

Lieutenant Governor of Florida speaks at ECS

Lieutenant Governor of Florida speaks at ECS after being invited by
sophomore Evangelical Christian School student, Brandilyn Laishley.

On December 3rd, the Lieutenant Governor of Florida, Jeff Kottkamp, spoke
to Evangelical Christian School after being invited by tenth grade
student, Brandilyn Laishley, as a project for World History class. After
Brandilyn introduced the lieutenant governor, he delivered an encouraging
speech about his job serving the state of Florida. Kottkamp spoke about
three ways in which Florida is leading the way for the country and the
world: the Space Florida program, biotechnology, and renewable energy. One
of his responsibilities is serving as Chairman on the Board of Space
Florida. He said that several of Florida’s universities are involved with
NASA researching and developing advanced medical technology. He explained
that being a politician has always been a dream for him, and he thinks
historical education is very important to the youth.

Lieutenant Governor Kottkamp told the students of ECS that when he became an

elected official, it was like “opening up a history book, and stepping inside.” One of the
most important things the lieutenant governor spoke about was that we
should not take our freedom for granted. He himself has two nephews
fighting in the war, so he understands what it means to fight for our
freedom.

After his speech, Mr. Kottkamp answered several students’
questions. He said that the most difficult part of his job is being away
from his wife, Cyndie, and his son, Jackson. Not only did the students and
faculty of ECS enjoy having Lieutenant Governor Kottkamp speak to the
school, but it was a tremendous learning experience hearing about the many
responsibilities of being the Lieutenant Governor of our beautiful state
of Florida.
