Christa Berquist is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships
that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test–a test which serves as an initial screen of more than 1.5
million entrants each year–and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.

Of the 1.5 million entrants, some 50,000 with the highest PSAT/NMSQT® Selection Index scores (critical
reading + mathematics + writing skills scores) qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship
Program. In April following the fall test administration, high-scoring participants from every state
are invited to name two colleges or universities to which they would like to be referred by NMSC. In
September, these high scorers are notified through their schools that they have qualified as either a
Commended Student or Semifinalist.

Christa's nomination makes it two years in a row for a Sentinel to be a finalist. Justin Frye was a National Merit Scholarship winner for ECS last year.

Twenty-nine ECS high school students traveled to Jacksonville to compete in the state high school FACCS Fine Arts competition, March 8 and 9. Congratulations to winners Christa Bergquist (1st place, Poetry), Jonathan Skaggs (2nd place, Declamation), Kaycee Davis (3rd place, Oral Interp. of Poetry), Nathan George (2nd place, Classical Guitar Solo), Andrew Hsiao (1st place, World History/Geography), Mariah Hilsmann & Dana Hankins (3rd place, Duet Acting), Brandilyn Laishley (Nathan Hellenbrand pictured, standing in for Brandi - 2nd place, Oral Interp. of Scripture), Ashley Williams (3rd place, Biology), Michael Thomas (2nd place, Chemistry) and byDESIGN who received a Superior rating in Vocal Ensemble! ECS students won medals in 4 of 9 speech categories entered and 4 of 4 academic categories entered! Congratulations to Matthew Hovis, an ECS junior, who received a superior rating in Classical Piano Solo at the FACCS Fine Arts Competition on March 9th.

Girls Soccer Finishes a successful season

ECS Girls soccer finished a great season Tuesday with a loss in the Regional Finals to Melbourne Central Catholic.

The season included a District Championship and a final record of 17-3-2.

Application to work on the ECS spring musical, The Music Man, is open to all 5th through 12th grade fine arts students (and parents), and can be completed ON-LINE.

Written in 1957, The Music Man became a hit on Broadway, winning 5 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. According to Dramatics magazine, this was the 8th most popular musical performed by American high schools last year - and ECS will be performing it April 19 through 21 in the Sentinel Gym.

No worries, it is time for the Mid Year Uniform Exchange!

Bring in your outgrown "current style" uniform on December 15th from 12:00-2:00. Tables will be set up out front of main office to swap and trade.

All "former uniform" pants, skirts and shorts can be dropped off December 15th 12:00-2:00 at the uniform exchange. These items will be donated to a local charity.
