Sentinel Scholars
Program Objectives
The primary purpose of the ECS Sentinel Scholars Program (SSP) is to develop God-honoring academic excellence in college-bound high school students. The foundation of the SSP is a demanding curriculum consisting of honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, in addition to targeted academic activities. The objectives of the program are as follows:
1. To stimulate and challenge academically gifted students to pursue the understanding of God's
truths in the classroom
2. To assist the student in developing and articulating a Biblical worldview
3. To guide students to discern God's purpose for the future
4. To prepare college-bound ECS graduates for the most demanding of academic endeavors
5. To offer the possibility for students to receive college credit through AP exams, CLEP tests,
and alternative options
6. To create students who are competitive as recipients of local, state, and national scholarships
7. To facilitate the mentoring of younger ECS students as an act of service to God and the community.
Program Structure
The program is divided into three levels, with each level requiring specific accomplishments. In addition,
all students must fulfill basic program requirements. Sentinel Scholars will receive recognition and a
distinctive diploma at graduation.
Basic Program Requirements:
1. Complete 40 hours of community service annually during grades 9-12. At least 10 of the 160 hours must be done as a Sentinel Scholar Tutor/Mentor.
2. Participate in a minimum of two academic competitions which may include:
a. A Team
b. Brain Bowl
c. Speech Competitions
d. FACCS Academic Testing
e. Poetry/Essay Competitions
f. Science Fair
g. Inventor Fair
h. National Olympiads in Chemistry, Biology, Math, etc.
3. Complete a course on the development of a Biblical worldview.
4. Complete a career evaluation assessment.
5. Complete two years of a foreign language.
6. Complete a minimum of one technology course and four technology based projects.
Cum Laude:
A student earns a minimum of ten honors credits. Physics or Calculus must be successfully completed. Students must have a
cumulative GPA of 3.8 and take a minimum of two CLEP tests.
Magna Cum Laude:
A student earns a minimum of ten honors credits and two AP credits. Physics and calculus must be successfully completed. Students
must have a cumulative GPA of 4.0.
Summa Cum Laude:
A student earns a minimum of ten honors credits and four AP credits. Physics and calculus must be successfully completed.
